"What you need to know Russia says it has captured Donetsk Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has met French counterpart Emmanuel Macron to 'move negotiations forward' The meeting came just hours after Ukrainian negotiators sat down with US counterparts in Florida on Sunday Though the US and Ukraine both called Sunday's talks positive, it remains unclear if an end to Russia's invasion can be achieved and just how much the US will demand of Ukraine to make that happen"
Russian officials said their military captured Pokrovsk in Donetsk and reported taking Vovchansk, after President Vladimir Putin visited a command post to receive commanders' reports. Independent verification was not available. Pokrovsk is a logistics hub that had about 60,000 residents before the war; most civilians fled and the town could be used as a base to advance on the two largest Ukrainian-held cities in Donetsk. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met French President Emmanuel Macron and spoke with US envoy Steve Witkoff ahead of planned talks with Putin. US–Ukraine negotiators held talks in Florida described as positive, but a path to ending the invasion and the extent of US demands on Ukraine remain unclear.
