"The incident involving the pedestrian happened at approximately 7pm yesterday evening on Main Street in Abbeyleix, Co Laois. Gardaí and emergency services arrived at the scene of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian on Wednesday evening. The male pedestrian was transported to Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore, where he was later pronounced dead. No other injuries have been reported, a Garda spokesperson said. The road was closed for technical examination and has since reopened."
"The man, who was the sole occupant of the car, died in the wake of the collision which occurred at Inishammon, Smithboro, Co. Monaghan at around 7:30pm. Gardaí and emergency services raced to the scene, but were unable to save the man from his injuries. His body has since been transferred to the Our Lady's Hospital, Navan where a post-mortem examination is expected to take place later today."
A pedestrian in his 70s was struck by a car on Main Street, Abbeyleix at approximately 7pm and was taken to Midland Regional Hospital, Tullamore, where he was later pronounced dead. Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and for any dash-cam or camera footage from road users in the area between 6.30pm and 7:30pm, and provided contact details for Abbeyleix Garda Station and the Garda Confidential Line. Separately, a man in his 30s died in a single-vehicle crash at Inishammon, Smithboro at around 7:30pm; his body was transferred to Our Lady's Hospital, Navan for a post-mortem, the local coroner has been notified, and the road remains closed for forensic collision investigators.
