Trump to host Armenia, Azerbaijan leaders for peace talks: Report
Briefly

Armenia and Azerbaijan's leaders met in the UAE for peace talks, but no breakthrough occurred. President Donald Trump plans to host the leaders for further discussions at the White House, with a potential peace framework announcement. The conflict began in the late 1980s when Nagorno-Karabakh broke away from Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan regained control over the region in September 2023, leading to the exodus of 100,000 ethnic Armenians to Armenia. The International Court of Justice has mandated Azerbaijan to allow the return of displaced Armenians.
The two South Caucasus countries have been in conflict with each other since the late 1980s, when Nagorno-Karabakh broke away from Azerbaijan with support from Armenia.
Azerbaijan recaptured Nagorno-Karabakh in September 2023, prompting almost all of the territory's 100,000 Armenians to flee to Armenia.
The United Nations's top court has ordered Azerbaijan to allow ethnic Armenians who fled Nagorno-Karabakh to return.
Azerbaijan, whose inhabitants are mostly Muslim, links its historical identity to the territory, too, and has accused the Armenians of driving out ethnic Azerbaijanis.
