Trump prepares to meet Zelensky at White House as US President hails 'great progress' after Putin call
""We need Tomahawks for the United States of America too,""
""We have a lot of them, but we need them. I mean we can't deplete our country.""
""won't change the situation on the battlefield, but would cause substantial damage to the relationship between our countries,""
""Last night I gave orders to set up an organising committee, we have set out the most important tasks and preparations have started,""
Trump called his conversation with the Russian president very productive and agreed to face-to-face talks in Budapest. Volodymyr Zelensky will press the United States for Tomahawk cruise missiles capable of striking deep into Russian territory to strengthen Kyiv's bargaining position. Trump earlier signalled he might agree but later downplayed the chances, noting the United States also needs Tomahawks and cannot deplete its stock. Yuri Ushakov, Putin's foreign policy adviser, warned that supplying Tomahawks "won't change the situation on the battlefield, but would cause substantial damage to the relationship between our countries." Hungary's prime minister Viktor Orban has begun preparations to host the meeting and set up an organising committee, saying the talks would be about peace and could spur economic development.
