Tributes paid to prison educator killed in Cork road accident
"Veronica Hoen (61), from Glanmire died in the crash in the Dunkettle area of Glanmire shortly before 2pm on Monday. She is the 111th person to die on our roads this year. She was pronounced dead before she could be taken to Cork University Hospital (CUH). Ms Hoen was involved in the Visual Artist In Prisons Scheme (VAIPS), which provides financial support to visual artists to conduct workshops in the education units in Irish prisons."
"She was co-ordinator of the Visual Artists in Cork Prison. Educators and artists said she was very well liked and respected for her work. Ms Hoen had been the focus of tributes from President Michael D Higgins in 2016 when he opened an exhibition which she had curated. In a tribute on the Glanmire Community Notes page, she was described as "a bubbly, friendly, lovely lady who will be missed by many"."
Veronica Hoen, 61, from Glanmire died in a single-vehicle collision in the Dunkettle Ballinglanna area shortly before 2pm and was pronounced dead at the scene before reaching Cork University Hospital. She was the 111th person to die on roads this year. Hoen coordinated Visual Artists in Cork Prison and participated in the Visual Artist In Prisons Scheme (VAIPS), supporting visual arts workshops in prison education units. Educators, artists, and community members described her as well liked and respected and said her death is an enormous loss for Cork and the arts community. GardaĆ­ closed the road for forensic examination and appealed for witnesses and any dash-cam footage between 1:30pm and 2:10pm, asking anyone with information to contact Mayfield Garda Station.
