Tony Hawk's "900 Skateboard" Sells for Record-Breaking $1.15 Million
"It was something that I have strived for for years and years and years, and in a lot of ways had given up on it,"
"But I just didn't think of the resonance that [it] would have."
"This historic result is not just a landing for Julien's Auctions but for the culture of skateboarding and collecting."
"[creating] safe and inclusive public skate parks for youth."
Tony Hawk sold the Birdhouse "Falcon 2" skateboard he used to land the 900 at the 1999 X Games for $1.15 million, setting a new skateboarding memorabilia record and doubling presale estimates. Several other items also far exceeded estimates, including knee pads for $57,600, a helmet for $120,000, and a black-and-orange Adio sneaker for $64,000. Julien's Auctions handled the sale. Hawk served as auctioneer and designated proceeds to The Skatepark Project. The nonprofit supports under-served communities by creating safe, inclusive public skate parks and offers an app to help riders find nearby spots.
