Tommy Meskill takes Six One News role while shake-up at RTE radio continues

"He has a bachelors degree in Communications and Media studies from Dublin City University (DCU). After leaving DCU in 2015, Mr Meskill began his career as a broadcast journalist in East Coast FM. He moved on to Dublin's FM104 where he was a broadcast journalist for a year until 2016 when he joined RTE. He steadily moved up the ranks at the state broadcaster, where he started out as a reporter in Morning Ireland and at RTE's Foreign Desk."

Mr Meskill, in his early thirties, has been promoted to a role on RTÉ's nightly news and impressed RTÉ News and Current Affairs Director Deirdre McCarthy as London Correspondent. He described taking on the role as a huge honour and said the nightly news show has a crucial role in shaping the news agenda in Ireland. He has a DCU degree and began his journalism career at East Coast FM, moved to FM104, joined RTÉ in 2016, and progressed from Morning Ireland reporter to London correspondent.
