"a crucial role in shaping the news agenda in Ireland"
"Its strength depends on the work of almost the entire newsroom, which is why it's such a cherished part of what we do,"
"I'm really looking forward to getting started and being part of a programme that continues to bring accurate, engaging and trusted news to our audience."
"Tommy is very popular and he a very hard worker so we're not surprised he is being tipped for the job."
Tom Meskill has been appointed presenter of RTÉ's nightly news show. He was promoted to RTÉ's London Correspondent in July 2024 and impressed Director Deirdre McCarthy. Meskill described taking the role as a huge honour and said the nightly news show plays a crucial role in shaping the news agenda in Ireland. He praised the newsroom's collective work and said he looks forward to delivering accurate, engaging and trusted news. Meskill holds a bachelor’s degree in Communications and Media Studies from Dublin City University and began his career at East Coast FM before moving to FM104 and then RTÉ. Colleagues expect interest in who will replace him in London. RTÉ confirmed Sarah McInerney will begin on Morning Ireland in the coming weeks, Justin McCarthy will continue as a permanent presenter, and Paul Cunningham will present News This Week.
