The funding will enable Ceann Comhairle Verona Murphy, Leas-Cheann Comhairle John McGuinness and Seanad Cathaoirleach Mark Daly to each employ a special adviser. The average annual cost per adviser is around €108,000. One special adviser role had been scrapped a decade earlier after controversy over John O'Donoghue's travel costs. The decision restores dedicated advisory support for the three presiding officers at a combined annual cost of €325,000.
