"The crash, involving two vehicles, occurred in the townland of Gibstown, on the Ardee Road, on the outskirts of Dundalk town shortly after 9pm. All five deceased were travelling in the same car, a Volkswagen Golf. They are understood to be from Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan, Drumconrath, Co. Louth and Scotland. There was a sixth person in the Golf, a male, who is in hospital with serious injuries."

A two-vehicle collision occurred shortly after 9pm on Saturday November 15, 2025, in Gibstown on the Ardee Road on the outskirts of Dundalk. Five people in their 20s — three men and two women — died; all five were travelling in the same Volkswagen Golf. A sixth person from the Golf, a male, is in hospital with serious injuries. A male and female in the Toyota Land Cruiser are in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The deceased are understood to be from Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan, Drumconrath, Co. Louth and Scotland. The vehicles and bodies remain at the scene and the L3168 is closed between the N52 and the R171 pending a technical forensic examination. Gardaí have appealed for witnesses and for dash-cam footage from 8.30pm–9.15pm; contact numbers 042 938 8400 and 1800 666 111 are provided. Masses and a remembrance service are planned for the victims and their families.
