The Indo Daily: 'We might die here' - A firebomb attack and a family left homeless
"We were looking for something, coffee cups, Bluetooth speakers, anything we could to break the window. We managed to break it after two or three minutes, which felt like the longest two to three minutes of my life. At that point, we were just very much like, 'We might die here, we might not make it'."
"I really thought I wasn't going to see her again,"
"I thought I'd lost my mother. I was even thinking, what will I say at her funeral?"
Amanda Uwase, 23, a master's journalism student at Dublin City University, survived a petrol-bomb attack on her Finglas home on New Year's Eve. She and her family broke a window with household items after flames and smoke filled their house, fearing they might die. Her mother was critically injured and hospitalized. Their home was destroyed and the family now live in emergency accommodation while recovering physically and mentally. GardaĆ are investigating the incident and suspect mistaken identity. The attack forms part of a recent spate of firebomb incidents being examined by security correspondents and investigators.
