Marianne Smyth built a long career across both sides of the Atlantic as a swindler and conwoman. Smyth claimed to be Jennifer Aniston, a psychic, an heiress and a Satanic priestess. Smyth was convicted at Downpatrick Crown Court of swindling more than £115,000 from four victims, including Derry GAA player Dermot McNicholl. Smyth was extradited from the US to face charges of investment fraud and was found guilty on all counts after a jury deliberated for 20 minutes. Born in Maine, Smyth claimed she had ordered IRA killings, was the heir to a multi-million dollar fortune and had survived cancer. Smyth had euthanised her pet dogs before fleeing Northern Ireland.
