The UK will rejoin Erasmus+ in 2027, seven years after leaving post-Brexit when leaders judged the costs unjustifiable. Rejoining will expand study and training abroad opportunities for apprentices, further and higher education students, adult learners, and youth and sport staff. More than 100,000 people in the UK could benefit in the first year, and evidence suggests studying abroad can boost career prospects, particularly for disadvantaged students. The 2021–2027 Erasmus+ programme prioritises social inclusion, green and digital transitions, and young people's participation in democratic life. The UK will join once the current programme ends.
