""The unprecedented blackmail of the president by Petr Macinka is absolutely unacceptable. This has no place in a democratic culture," the independent Million Moments for Democracy movement said on Facebook."
""The president said he values people who are "willing to stand up for decency, truth, solidarity and mutual respect.""
""If I have Turek at the Environment Ministry, he [President Pavel] can have peace of mind. If not, I will burn our bridges in a way that will enter the textbooks of political science as an extreme case of cohabitation," Macinka wrote in one message."
Tens of thousands of people gathered in Prague to support President Petr Pavel after he publicly accused Foreign Minister Petr Macinka of attempted blackmail over a cabinet post. Organizers estimated attendance at 80,000 to 90,000, with participants waving Czech, European and Ukrainian flags. Pavel has opposed the nomination of Filip Turek as a government minister because of Turek's involvement in multiple scandals. Macinka, who is serving as both foreign and environment minister, sent messages threatening consequences if Pavel continued to refuse Turek, prompting public outrage and plans for additional rallies across the Czech Republic on February 15.
