Team GB's Gus Kenworthy lands next role post Winter Olympics
"Aside from his Olympic career, Kenworthy has been announced to join the producing team of the Off-West End production Sugar Daddy, alongside Alan Cumming, Billy Porter and RuPaul's Drag Race UK s eason 7 star Sally TM. The show explores Morrison's experiences with grief, queer identity and a Type 1 diabetes diagnosis. Kenworthy told TNT Sports that the show is "really funny, it's really heartfelt, it's moving - it's his story about loss and resilience"."
"He recalled of his own experiences with loss: "When I was 14 I was in an accident with two of my best friends and my best friend was killed. "I felt like it really resonated with me, and I have felt loss too, so I was deeply, deeply moved by it." Kenworthy won silver at the Sochi Winter Olympics in 2014 and also competed in PyeongChang (2018) competing for the US. He took part in the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing for Team GB."
Gus Kenworthy, a dual British and American citizen born in Chelmsford and raised in Telluride, returned from retirement for his fourth Winter Olympics and feels positive about skiing for Team GB at Milano Cortina 2026. He advanced to the men's halfpipe final on 20 February, giving him a chance at another medal. Kenworthy won silver at Sochi 2014, competed for the US in PyeongChang 2018, and represented Team GB at Beijing 2022. He will join the producing team of the Off-West End production Sugar Daddy, a one-man show by Sam Morrison about a summer romance, the death of a partner during the COVID-19 pandemic, and themes of grief, queer identity and Type 1 diabetes. Kenworthy related to the show through his own experience of teenage loss. Sugar Daddy runs at the Underbelly Boulevard theatre in Soho from 5 March to 4 April.
