Surprise four-legged Olympic competitor wows cross-country fans
"I was like, 'Am I hallucinating?'"
"I don't know what I should do, because maybe he could attack me, bite me."
"He was crying this morning more than normal because he was seeing us leaving and I think he just wanted to follow us,"
"It's not that big deal, because I'm not fighting for medals or anything big," she said. "But if that happened in the finals, it could really cost someone the medals or a really good result."
During a preliminary cross-country team sprint in Lago di Tesero, Italy, a two-year-old Czechoslovakian Wolfdog named Nazgul broke out of his doghouse and ran onto the homestretch. Race officials quickly collared Nazgul and returned him unharmed to a nearby bed-and-breakfast. The owners, related to an event official, said the dog was crying when they left and often seeks people; they described him as stubborn but sweet. Television and social media widely circulated the incident. A Croatian skier, Tena Hadzic, said the encounter confused her and may have cost a few seconds. Organizers did not make the dog available for questions.
