Storm Bram: 54,000 without power as high winds persist; major disruption to road and air travel
"As of 4pm approximately 54,000 homes, farms and businesses are without power, predominantly in counties Wexford, Cork, Tipperary, Kildare, Dublin, Meath and Westmeath, ESB Networks have said. With warnings remaining in place, further power outages can be expected, ESB Networks said. "Weather conditions associated with Met Éireann's Status Orange and Yellow warnings have led to outages throughout today, Tuesday 9th December, as Storm Bram causes substantial damage to the electricity network," an ESB spokesperson said."
""Our crews have been out. They've been out all day, as have our contractors," she told the RTÉ Radio 1 Drivetime programme. "They're working initially to assess the damage and make the network safe. But we have been able to restore supply to large numbers of customers." Ms Wynne also urged people who come across fallen trees to also be cautious of the potential for fallen wires nearby too."
Storm Bram produced heavy winds and flooding across parts of Ireland, forcing road and train-station closures in Waterford and shutting Winterval attractions. Multiple flights were cancelled at Dublin Airport and commuters faced disruption in Cork and Kerry. Status Orange and Yellow wind warnings remained in force, and the storm was described as "an impactful event." Approximately 54,000 homes, farms and businesses lost power across several counties. Crews worked to assess damage, make networks safe and restore supply. People were warned to avoid fallen networks and to contact 1800 372 999 for fallen wires.
