"We got to know the regulars [over the first eight months] and what they loved about the place and what needed our attention,"
"When we started talking to them about renovations, they all said the same thing: 'Don't screw it up! But new bathrooms would be nice!'"
"Like 'We're gonna have a final drink, then we're gonna get out of here.' And then it's, 'All right, one more, the final final.' And two hours later, you're still there."
The Final Final bar at 2990 Baker St. will reopen Sept. 27 after a seven-month renovation. Renovations include revamped cocktail and food menus, moving the bar six feet back to increase standing room, and adding banquet seating and new bathrooms. Owners Joseph Wallace and Robert Lemons preserved the bar's sports memorabilia and historic character while updating amenities. The building has served as a neighborhood watering hole for around 90 years and has borne the name The Final Final since 1978. The name derives from an old drinking term about having one more drink, and Joe DiMaggio was once a regular.
