Alec Stewart will return as Surrey's director of cricket after stepping back at the end of last year to support his wife during her cancer treatment. He served as a high performance advisor while supporting his wife, who passed away in April. Stewart first became director in 2013 and will focus on supporting the cricket management team, strengthening the squad, and developing players through Surrey's pathway into the professional side. His tenure oversaw four County Championship titles, including three consecutive championships from 2022 to 2024. Stewart played 133 Tests for England from 1990 to 2003 and helped the one-day side reach the 1992 World Cup final. Surrey chief executive Steve Elworthy praised Stewart's commitment, drive and standards.
