Jonathan Dowdall, a former Sinn Féin councillor turned state witness, is scheduled for release from prison on October 29. Upon release he and his family will be relocated overseas as he enters the Witness Security Programme. He is expected to be placed into the custody of the gardaí several days before his official release date and transported directly to an airport. Dowdall had requested relocation to California, but that request was refused. The relocation will include his immediate family and will involve transfer under protective custody to facilitate entry into the Witness Security Programme abroad.
