Spain welcomed France, the United Kingdom, Australia and Canada for formally recognizing a Palestinian state, following Spain's May 2024 recognition. France affirmed that recognizing Palestinian rights does not diminish Israeli rights. Monaco, Malta and Luxembourg also expressed support. Spain called for Palestine to become a full United Nations member, noting 156 of 193 UN members back the initiative while the United States remains a leading opponent. Spanish leadership urged completion of the membership process promptly and on equal footing. Strong criticism of Israel's actions in Gaza was voiced, describing the Palestinian people as being annihilated.
