Samuel Benjamin Small, in his 40s, died unexpectedly at a construction site in Ringsend on Friday 12 December 2025. A photograph of him was posted online and tributes praised his professionalism and mentorship. He was originally from South Africa, was a member of the Poolbeg Yacht Club, and had lived in south Dublin for several years. His funeral will take place on Monday at 11am at St Matthew's Church in Irishtown. His death notice named him as the beloved son of Rob and Sara-Lea and brother to Kirsten, Rupert, Cian and Cierewyn and said he will be very sadly missed. The Health and Safety Authority has launched an investigation and Gardaí prepared a file for the coroner. A community social media post asked residents to give him a proper Ringsend send-off because most of his family live abroad.
