""Chaim Herzog, my late father, grew up in Dublin and fought the Nazis in WW2 as an officer in the British Army," he wrote."
""His father, Rabbi Isaac Herzog, was the first Chief Rabbi of Ireland and a strong supporter of Irish Nationalism.""
""It is sad to see how the fact that one of Ireland's prominent Jewish figures became president of the State of Israel, turned from being a source of pride to Dublin to being a source of denial.""
""US Senator Lindsey Graham has also spoken out, calling modern Ireland 'a cesspool of antisemitism'""
Dublin City Council will debate a proposal on 1 December to remove Chaim Herzog's name from Herzog Park in Rathgar and to hold a public consultation on a new name. Sinn Féin councillor Kourtney Kenny tabled a June 2024 motion to rename the park Hind Rajab Park to commemorate a six-year-old Palestinian killed in Gaza when the car she was in was shelled by Israel Defence Forces. The South East Area Committee approved the motion last December with one objection. Michael Herzog, former Israeli ambassador to the US and son of Chaim Herzog, posted on X calling the development painful and saying Ireland was becoming a scene of raging antisemitism. US Senator Lindsey Graham called modern Ireland "a cesspool of antisemitism."
