Skyrora wins green light to lob rockets from Scotland
Briefly

The Civil Aviation Authority has granted Skyrora a launch operator license for its Skylark L suborbital vehicle. This allows launches from SaxaVord Spaceport in Unst, Shetland. The Skylark L can carry up to 50 kg to 125 km altitude. Skyrora is also developing the Skyrora XL, aimed for a 2027 launch, with two of its three stages already completed. The company aims to expedite its orbital license process following the suborbital launch approval. Skyrora emphasizes safety and appreciates the CAA's commitment to high standards.
"Critical, this vehicle has all the relevant subsystems, including the flight control computer, which are being 'de-risked' prior to utilizing them on the main orbital launch vehicle XL."
"Two of the three stages of the XL vehicle are complete, and we expect to deliver the first stage soon. We plan to complete integration tests of the XL vehicle next year, dependent on manufacturing timelines, and target a launch in 2027."
