"Gardaí have launched a manhunt for the driver of a car involved in a hit-and-run in Co Cavan on Tuesday evening. The incident left a young female pedestrian (aged in her 20s) with serious injuries in hospital, and a front seat passenger seriously hospitalised in a coma. The young woman was rushed to Cavan General Hospital with what have been described as "serious injuries" after the incident which took place along a stretch of the L1513 Loreto Road in Cavan town."
"The front seat passenger in the car sustained a serious head injury and was brought to Dublin's Beaumont Hospital, where they remain in a coma in the hospital's intensive care unit. The driver of the car ran from the scene, leading to the road being closed off and a full scale garda investigation getting underway. The Irish Independent understands gardaí are following a definite of inquiry and searched a property last night in a bid to further those inquiries. It is believed the suspect is known to gardaí."
