Search for missing rock climber stood down after body recovered on Cork coast
"Gardaí have confirmed that the operation for the man in his 20s was brought to an end following the discovery of his body earlier this morning. Local divers recovered the body from the water, before it was taken to shore by the local Baltimore RNLI boat. The body of the man, understood to be an Italian native, has also been removed from the scene, while a post-mortem will now take place."
"It is believed that the man's girlfriend raised the alarm shortly before 8.30pm yesterday evening, after the man got into difficulty while rock climbing just east of the Baltimore Beacon, in an area known as Fox's Cliff. It's also understood that some of the man's climbing gear was also found at the top of the cliffs. The search operation began last night, and had resumed this morning for the man, involving coast guard helicopters and the lifeboats."
A man in his 20s, believed to be a 27-year-old Italian, was found dead off Fox's Cliff east of the Baltimore Beacon, Co Cork. The man's girlfriend raised the alarm shortly before 8.30pm after he got into difficulty while rock climbing. Some of the climber's gear was located at the top of the cliffs. Local divers recovered the body from the water and the Baltimore RNLI boat brought it to shore. Gardaí confirmed the operation was stood down and the body was removed from the scene. A post-mortem will now take place. The search involved Valentina Coast Guard and Shannon and Waterford-based helicopters and was paused overnight before resuming the following morning.
