Ryanair pulls out of another French airport, citing taxes
"Although Ryanair is still operating from many French airports, the operator blamed the Clermont-Ferrand departure on the tax and said that: "France risks losing even more capacity and investment to more competitive markets by the summer of 2026." Managers at Clermont-Ferrand airport, which serves the eastern Auvergne area of France, said the departure was "a blow","
"but they would "work actively to develop direct routes from Clermont-Ferrand, and in particular to replace the destinations closed by Ryanair with other airlines." At Bordeaux airport, which Ryanair left last year in a dispute about airport fees, many of the routes have been taken over by fellow budget airline easyJet. Clermont-Ferrand bosses added that Air France currently represents 80 percent of traffic at the airport."
Ryanair announced it is pulling out of Clermont-Ferrand airport, ending flights to London, Porto and Fez from March 27. The airline cited France's 'eco tax' as the reason and previously signalled departures from Bergerac, Brive, Strasbourg and Vatry, though Bergerac services will resume in summer. Ryanair had warned of a wider withdrawal if the eco tax rose from €2.63 to €7.40 per economy ticket; the tax varies by class and distance. Ryanair also plans departures from some Belgian airports over a separate tax dispute. Clermont-Ferrand managers called the exit a blow and plan to seek replacement carriers.
