Revealed: Areas with highest and lowest birth rates across Ireland as CSO releases latest figures

The Central Statistics Office revealed that Ireland's birth rate was 10.2 per 1,000 in 2022. Tallaght had the highest birth rate of 13.7, while Glenties recorded the lowest at 7.4. A significant observation was that 15 Local Electoral Areas showed more deaths than births, increasing from an average of three LEAs from 2019 to 2021. Belmullet had the highest negative natural increase rate at -2.9 due to its low birth rates and high crude death rate. Overall, there were 35,804 deaths in Ireland in 2022, and the death rates varied across LEAs.
