"Met Eireann have updated the weather warning in Donegal to a status red wind warning.The national forecaster has warned of extremely strong and gusty southwest winds.People in Co Donegal will be advised to shelter in place between 4pm and 6pm during Storm Amy, the national director of Ireland's emergency management unit has said.Keith Leonard, from the National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management, said he expects Met Eireann to issue a red level weather warning for the county for that period."
"Speaking on RTE's News at One, he said: If I had one key message, it would be for that period from 4pm to 6pm in Donegal this afternoon, to ask people to shelter in place for that amount of time and to be very careful on the roads before that warning comes into place and after it's gone through.Mr Leonard said the storm will also feature a lot of rainfall and that fallen trees are likely to be an issue."
Met Eireann issued a red wind warning for Donegal from 16:00 to 18:00 and orange warnings for Clare, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo from 14:00 to 22:00. A nationwide yellow wind warning will run from 12:00 to 00:00. Extremely strong, gusty southwest winds and heavy rainfall are forecast, with likely impacts including fallen trees, damage to power lines, dangerous travelling conditions, structural damage and wave overtopping. People in Co Donegal are advised to shelter in place between 4pm and 6pm and to exercise caution on roads before and after that period. Donegal Airport will close from 14:00 and passengers should check directly with their airlines.
