Billy Kelleher said it was "distasteful" that party leader Micheál Martin put pressure on some of Kelleher's closest colleagues to vote against him before Jim Gavin was named as the party's presidential candidate. Kelleher described the Fianna Fáil Áras campaign as a "tragic drama" and spoke about the episode in his first extensive interview since the campaign. He did not rule out a return to Dáil politics and said the party is "at a crossroads".
