Dublin Airport will now enforce a noise quota scheme alongside a cap on night-time flights, allowing a maximum of 35,672 aircraft movements annually from 11.30pm to 6am. The plan represents a shift from the previously proposed limit of 13,000 flights between 11pm and 7am. The changes aim to accommodate airport growth while ensuring noise levels are managed effectively. The DAA sought this quota to replace numerical flight caps, which received support from various airlines and was recommended by relevant authorities. The commission is committed to avoid overly restrictive regulations to meet noise objectives.
The commission acknowledges that operating restrictions must not be more restrictive than is required to achieve the Noise Abatement Objective (NAO).
An Coimisiún Pleanála said that the airport will now be subject to a noise quota scheme, agreeing that an annual cap of 35,672 night-time aircraft movements at Dublin Airport would be appropriate.
The DAA sought to remove a numerical cap on the average number of flights permitted between 11pm and 7am, wanting this replaced with an annual night-time quota.
The planning body has also insisted that restrictions on numbers will not disincentivise airlines from using less noisy aircraft at Dublin Airport.
