Pay review leads to salary hikes for bosses of Bus Eireann, Iarnrod Eireann and Gas Networks Ireland
"Public Expenditure Minister Jack Chambers has signed off on new wage levels for CEOs at Bus Éireann, Iarnród Éireann and Gas Networks Ireland. Approval was given on October 8 to increase the salary for the chief executive of Bus Éireann from €210,000 to €260,000. Jean O'Sullivan took up the position on November 1. The newly appointed CEO at Iarnród Éireann, Mary Considine, started on a €300,000 salary on September 15, up from €225,000."
"The pay review effectively abolished the €250,000 pay cap on CEO appointments in commercial semi-state bodies introduced during the financial crisis. This review was carried out by a Senior Posts Remuneration Committee set up by the Government in March last year. Its report found the pay arrangements for the CEOs of commercial state bodies were not "optimal" and should be revised to bolster recruitment and retention."

Since an April pay review, boards may propose CEO salary-range revisions after a Senior Posts Remuneration Committee found arrangements were not optimal. Details of new wage bands are commercially sensitive, and RTÉ has not requested an adjustment for its CEO.
