Russia launched an August offensive near Dobropillia that advanced 15 to 20 km and captured a chain of villages, creating a small but influential salient. The salient projected two prongs deep into Ukrainian territory and was likened to rabbit ears on frontline maps, affecting perceptions of battlefield momentum. After the breakthrough, a Ukrainian platoon was dispatched to retake Hruzike and Vesele; Hruzike was recaptured with minimal resistance while Vesele produced heavy fighting. Ukrainian forces used ground robots, loudspeakers and tanks; houses and a school were shelled, and soldiers described systematically clearing dwellings, bushes and basements.
