Joice Thomas, 34, from Kambammettu in Kerala, India, died after his car was found partially submerged in the River Bride. He had been working at a nursing home in north Cork for 18 months and had arrived in Ireland on a dependent visa. He lived in Ballynoe with his wife Ruby Kuriakose and their two young children; his wife works as a nurse in Cork. Friends searched when he failed to return home and a motorist noticed signs of a collision. Gardai pronounced the sole occupant deceased and his body was taken to Cork University Hospital for post-mortem. A fundraising appeal to repatriate his remains raised over €39,000 within 12 hours.
