"When Yankees right fielder Aaron Judge 's Uber pulled up around 1:30 on the last Saturday afternoon of August, Alcala's was packed for its annual Labor Day weekend sidewalk sale. There were about 100 customers outside and another 100 inside eating free tacos while perusing the merchandise. Judge unfolded a baby stroller, strapped in his infant daughter, Nora, then headed in with wife Samantha. Teammate Anthony Volpe and his girlfriend were there, too."
"Salesman Robert Alcala Jr. took over from there. A big baseball fan, the 39-year-old grandson of the store founder wanted to ensure that Judge had the same "normal guy" experience at Alcala's that other famous clientele received over the years. The likes of Ozzy Osbourne and Scottie Pippen have been customers, and Led Zeppelin lead singer Robert Plant has been shopping there for decades."
Alcala's is a family-owned western wear store on West Chicago Avenue founded in 1972 with an iconic carnival-lit sign and a giant horse statue. The store hosted a busy Labor Day weekend sidewalk sale with about 100 customers outside and another 100 inside enjoying free tacos. Yankees right fielder Aaron Judge arrived with his wife Samantha and infant daughter Nora, accompanied by teammate Anthony Volpe. Manager Aaron Boone prompted a cowboy-themed dress requirement for a team flight, prompting shopping for boots. Salesman Robert Alcala Jr. guided Judge to the larger-size inventory to preserve a low-key experience. Size 17 snakeskin boots were rejected.
