Mourners hear death of Kildare man who was fatally assaulted was 'tragic and unnecessary'

"Mourners at the funeral mass of Ryan Weir Gibbons, who died following a fatal assault in Kildare town, heard how his 'contagious smile' will live on in the memories of his loved ones. Ryan Weir Gibbons (29) died on Thursday, October 30 following a serious assault in Kildare town just four days prior in the early hours of Sunday morning, October 26."

"Mr Weir Gibbons is understood to have been on a bus in the early hours of Sunday morning when a disagreement with others arose. After he exited the bus in Kildare town it is understood a row developed at Magee Terrace, which is close to the garda station, and there was an incident in which Mr Weir Gibbons received a head injury. Mr Weir Gibbons was found unresponsive at approximately 3.15am and rushed to the ICU at Naas General Hospital."

"During the funeral mass today, mourners heard from parish priest Fr Gerard Breen that "Ryan's death was tragic and unnecessary". However, today's focus was celebrating a young life that was lived to the fullest. A Dublin GAA jersey, countless photos of a beaming Mr Weir Gibbons and cans upon cans of his favourite soft drinks adorned the alter of his local church."

Ryan Weir Gibbons, 29, suffered a head injury after a disagreement on a bus in Kildare in the early hours of Sunday, October 26. A row developed at Magee Terrace near the garda station after he exited the bus. He was found unresponsive at approximately 3.15am and rushed to the ICU at Naas General Hospital, where he died on Thursday, October 30. A post-mortem was carried out and An Garda Síochána launched a murder investigation. Funeral mass attendees heard Fr Gerard Breen call the death tragic and unnecessary, and mourners celebrated his life with personal items and memorabilia.
