Two men, Walid Saadaoui, 38, and Amar Hussein, 52, face trial on charges of preparing acts of terrorism between 13 December 2023 and 9 May 2024. The prosecution alleges Islamist extremism and a visceral dislike of Jewish people, with the defendants identifying areas in Greater Manchester with large Jewish populations to target. The pair allegedly arranged purchase and delivery of firearms, conducted reconnaissance and planned an attack on a mass gathering before an undercover operative intervened. Footage allegedly shows Saadaoui fleeing a hotel car park as officers approached a vehicle containing assault rifles, a semi-automatic pistol and ammunition. The defendants were said to be awaiting further weapons and hundreds more rounds.
