"shut the f--- up!"
"I don't mind them having a go at us. Like, that's to be expected. I mean, that's what an away Ryder Cup is,"
"Whenever they are still doing it while you are over the ball and trying to hit your shot, that's the tough thing."
"In between shots, say whatever you want to me," McIlroy said. "But just let us -- you gave the us the respect to let us hit shots, and give us the same chance that the Americans have, I guess."
Rory McIlroy reacted to persistent heckling by shouting at the gallery during a pre-shot routine in the morning foursomes session. McIlroy was 2 up with Tommy Fleetwood against Collin Morikawa and Harris English when the incident occurred; he backed off, shouted at the crowd, repeated his routine, and hit the approach to a few feet. Fleetwood then made the birdie putt to close out a 3-and-2 win for Europe. McIlroy noted that away crowds can be expected to heckle but asked for respect when players are over the ball. He has won two matches and halved one so far, both wins with Fleetwood.
