"I prepare properly for these events, but I couldn't prepare for this at all as I've been lying in bed all week with food poisoning. I just thought: Go out there and give my best."
"I could see a lot of fans supporting me so I feel very confident and I didn't want to lose. This is my first win at Alexandra Palace."
Mark Allen overcame food poisoning to defeat Mark Williams 6-2 at the Masters, winning five consecutive frames to secure a quarter-final place. Allen is the 2018 champion and had been bedridden earlier in the week but managed to perform despite limited energy. He will face either Judd Trump or Ding Junhui in the quarter-finals. Zhao Xintong recorded a 6-2 victory over Gary Wilson, producing four consecutive half-centuries during his match. Zhao, aged 28, has already won the World and UK titles and is the third Chinese player in the last eight; he will play either John Higgins or Barry Hawkins.
