Man (70s) drowns after getting into difficulty while swimming at Mayo beach
"A man in his 70s has died after getting into difficulty while swimming in Keel Beach in Achill. The man was taken from the water after he was spotted by a member of the public at approximately 6pm yesterday evening. A local doctor performed CPR and a defibrillator sourced from a nearby village was used before the Sligo-based Coast Guard R118 emergency helicopter arrived on the beach at around 6.25pm."
"The man was brought by helicopter at 6.40pm to Mayo University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The man was believed to have been visiting the area, according to two local people who spoke to the Irish Independent. A post mortem examination will take place and a file will be prepared for the Mayo Coroner. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Westport Gardaí on 098 50230. Achill Coast Guard thanked all the agencies involved in attending to the deceased man."
