A woman was killed and her husband was critically injured after a knife-wielding man confronted them outside their home in Ballinlough on Monday night. The husband sustained critical injuries in the confrontation. A 25-year-old man, David Gallagher of Shrewsbury Downs, Ballinlough, Cork city, has been charged with the murder of his mother and with assault causing harm to his father. The charges relate to the incident close to the family home on the southside of Cork city. David Gallagher appeared before Cork District Court this afternoon.
