Two earthquakes were felt in Anchorage, Alaska, on Thursday. The first, a magnitude 3.2 quake, struck 48 miles north of the city at 5:23 am. A second tremor, measured at 2.9, occurred near Elmendorf Air Force Base at 10:13 am. Residents reported feeling both tremors, although they caused no injuries or damage. Anchorage's location along the Aleutian subduction zone makes it prone to seismic activity. Mount Spurr, nearby, continues to show elevated seismic activity and remains under an advisory status.
Those from 2.5 to 5.4 are often felt but only cause minor damage.
Elmendorf Air Force Base, like all of Alaska, is prone to earthquakes due to its location along a major tectonic plate boundary.
