Lower Saxony: AfD put on far-right intelligence watchlist
"The northern state's internal intelligence agency will monitor the Alternative for Germany (AfD) political party as a "surveillance object of considerable import" on the far-right. "It treats our state and our democratic institutions with contempt. People with migratory backgrounds are made into second-class citizens. It unapologietically propagates the so-called "remigration" of millions of people from the heart of our society. This is again proven. The continuation of surveillance by the Lower Saxony Verfassungsschutz is a logical consequence given this backdrop.""
"The state intelligence agency for Lower Saxony has classified the Alternative for Germany (AfD) as a far-right organization worthy of surveillance. Interior Minister Daniela Behrens and state intelligence agency (or Verfassungsschutz) head Dirk Pejril announced the move at a press conference on Tuesday. "The evaluation of the intelligence service is clear: the greatest threat to our society stems from right-wing extremism and the AfD Lower Saxony [party chapter] can be assigned to this area according to the designation," Behrens said."
Lower Saxony's internal intelligence agency has classified the Alternative for Germany (AfD) as a far-right organization and will monitor it as a surveillance object of considerable import. Interior Minister Daniela Behrens and Verfassungsschutz head Dirk Pejril announced the designation at a press conference. The intelligence service evaluated right-wing extremism as the greatest threat to society and attributed the AfD Lower Saxony chapter to that threat. The AfD is accused of contempt for democratic institutions, treating people with migratory backgrounds as second-class citizens, and unapologetically promoting "remigration" of millions. Continued surveillance by the Lower Saxony Verfassungsschutz is described as a logical consequence.
