Lithuania summoned the Russian charge d’affaires and issued a strong protest after two Russian planes entered Lithuanian airspace on October 23. A Sukhoi SU-30 fighter and an IL-78 tanker from Kaliningrad passed through Lithuanian airspace for 18 seconds, probably during aerial refueling training. Vilnius demanded that Russia immediately explain the reasons for the violation and take all necessary measures to prevent similar incidents. President Gitanas Nausėda called the incursion a blatant breach of international law and said it confirmed the need to strengthen European air defense readiness. Russia’s Defense Ministry denied any border violation. Two Spanish Eurofighter Typhoons scrambled under NATO Baltic patrol in response.
