John Murphy, 59, from Limerick is stranded in the United Arab Emirates, barred from leaving and without an income after an arrest and later acquittal. He was arrested in Abu Dhabi on allegations involving hotel security staff, imprisoned, and acquitted while awaiting trial. Unpaid rent during detention prompted his landlord to seize possessions and secure a travel ban. He is homeless, forced to spend days riding the metro, and experiencing serious medical and dental issues. Two unresolved civil cases remain, including one from 2017; he claims evidence disproves the debts but cannot afford administrative fees to defend himself. Detained in Dubai has appealed for government intervention and the organisation was founded in 2008 and has represented 20,000 clients.
