Late-night Northern line disruption as Bank branch to shut early for engineering works
"The early closure means that trains will stop serving the Bank branch from 10pm, but there will be an additional four trains an hour on the Charing Cross branch. However, to accommodate this, TfL will have to reduce the overall frequency of some Northern line services from around 9:30pm onwards, leading to longer waiting times across much of the line during the late evening."
"We apologise to Northern line customers and local businesses for the disruption that the early closure of the Bank branch will cause. This is to enable us to carry out essential track replacement work to improve the reliability of the line in future and would be very challenging to complete within normal engineering hours. Customers are advised to check before they travel, using TfL's real-time travel information tools to find the quickest alternative for their specific journey."
From 12 January until late May 2026 the Bank branch of the Northern line will close at 10pm on Monday to Thursday evenings to allow extended engineering hours for track replacement. Trains will stop serving the Bank branch from 10pm, and the Charing Cross branch will receive an extra four trains per hour. Overall frequencies on parts of the Northern line will be reduced from around 9:30pm Monday to Thursday, producing longer waiting times across much of the line late in the evening. Night Tube services on Friday and Saturday will operate as usual. Customers are advised to check TfL's real-time travel information for alternatives. The Kennington–Morden service will run at 3–4 minute intervals, a reduction of two trains per hour, and an all-day weekend closure for that section is planned for 7–8 February 2026.
