Kosovo: Kurti to win election, but no majority exit poll DW 12/28/2025
"Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti won a clear victory in Kosovo's second parliamentary election in 2025 with some 44% of the vote, exit polls suggested on Sunday evening, but his left-wing Self-Determination party fell short of an absolute majority. If confirmed, the projection by the Klan Kosova network would translate to 49 out of 120 seats in Parliament for the nationalists just one more than in the February elections."
"Kosovo has been mired in political paralysis for most of the year, after Kurti's leftist party lost the absolute majority it had won in 2021 and failed to secure the support of any other party to form a government. Months of unsuccessful coalition talks led to President Vjosa Osmani dissolving the parliament in November and calling an early election. Since then, Kosovo's legislature has been unable to agree on its leadership, leaving the body effectively paralyzed and unable to function."
"Kurti, who has governed since 2021, was hoping for a decisive result similar to his 2021 victory, when he was able to form a government largely on his own. His reform agenda has produced mixed results so far. If Vetevendosje again falls short of a majority, uncertainty remains over whether Kosovo's main political parties will be willing to compromise to form a coalition government."
Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti and his Vetevendosje movement secured roughly 44% of the vote in Kosovo's 2025 parliamentary election, projecting 49 seats. The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) polled near 27%, the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) near 16%, and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) about 7%. Kurti’s party did not regain an absolute majority, prolonging uncertainty over coalition formation. Months of failed coalition talks prompted President Vjosa Osmani to dissolve parliament and call early elections. Kosovo’s legislature remained unable to agree on leadership and was effectively paralyzed, with opposition parties refusing to govern with Kurti.
