He allowed his business to store a machine containing crystal meth valued at more than €32 million from an organised crime group with links to the Sinaloa Cartel. McDonnell was jailed for 12 years for the importation that became the State's largest seizure of crystal meth. The tax authority seeks to take part of the proceeds from the sale of his €795,000 family home. Tax officials cited criminal convictions and dishonest character and expressed concern about attempts to liquidate or dissipate his assets. The matter was heard in the High Court.
