"Wexford, Wicklow, Meath, Louth and Dublin will also be under a Yellow warning for wind. This warning kicked in at 11pm on Tuesday and lasts until 1pm on Wednesday. Concern is focused on the fact the worst of the weather conditions today will coincide with the peak morning commute. The Department of Education said school boards of management will make decisions at the local level in respect of weather conditions and their possible impact on schools and the school transport network."
"The National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management (NDFEM) said: "Flooding is a risk across the country due to the current conditions. "Whether or not a Yellow rain warning is in place for a county, all areas will remain at risk of flooding." It is a significant expansion of the advisory that was first announced on Monday. Met Éireann said there is a risk of flooding, poor visibility and difficult travelling conditions in these areas, which are also experiencing high river levels."
Heavy spells of rain have fallen on already saturated ground across the country, bringing river levels close to bursting banks and increasing flood risk. Met Éireann issued Status Yellow rain warnings for Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Cork, Tipperary and Waterford from 11pm Tuesday to 11pm Wednesday. Wexford, Wicklow, Meath, Louth and Dublin face a Yellow wind warning from 11pm Tuesday to 1pm Wednesday. The worst conditions are expected to coincide with the morning commute. School boards will decide locally on closures and transport impacts. The NDFEM warns flooding risk exists nationwide regardless of county warnings. A separate Yellow rain warning applies to Donegal with possible sleet and snow.
