A devastating fire at the Corniche Hypermarket Mall in Kut, Wasit province, resulted in at least 61 casualties, including children, with most victims succumbing to suffocation. The mall had just opened a week prior. Civil defense teams managed to rescue 45 trapped individuals. Initial reports suggest the fire began on the cosmetics floor, and an investigation has been ordered by the Prime Minister. Allegations arise regarding poor safety standards, leading to legal action against the mall's owners. A three-day mourning period has been declared for the victims.
